Storytelling to get you thinking. Keeping the oral tradition alive.

Word of Mouth is a monthly gathering all about storytelling and the oral tradition.  The club meets on the first Friday of the month and welcomes visitors from across the North West to share tales and be entertained.

We have a mix of guest storyteller nights and stories from the floor, bringing some of the finest storytellers from across the land to Manchester to entertain, thrill and inspire.

"Like many storytellers, I have some superb memories of the club over the years, most recently with Dark Tales from India, where it was one of my most enjoyable sharings of these dark, sensual and twisted stories.  And that's what makes Word of Mouth so special, your audiences ROCK!!" - Peter Chand.

Everyone is welcome, whether you come with a tale to tell, or simply to listen and be entertained.

Janet's Baby - A New Tamlane- Stephe Harrop

Where here meets there, and this world meets the next, a girl meets a boys and what follows definitely isn't safe sex.  Between midnight and morning, Janet must play a game of transformations, and the prize at stake is her unborn baby's name.  But a rough wooing isn't a marriage.  And, growing up in a place where kingdoms kiss and lovers part, what will Janet's bairn inherit?  This epic retelling of the ballad Tamlane travels deep into the dark heart of the old borderlands; the place where songs and stories, and the identities of nations have been forged.

Stephe Harrop headed north to take up a post as lecturer in drama at Liverpool Hope University and comes to Word of Mouth highly recommended as a storyteller after many appearances at some of London's best story venues.  Regulars have already enjoyed Stephe's engaging style, full of humour, and humanity, but also not shying away from the dark and tragic.

Tickets can be bought on the door, £7 waged, £5 unwaged.  We are in the upstairs room of The Britons Protection, 50 Great Bridgewater Street, Manchester, just opposite the Bridgewater Hall.
